Leica on a Budget: Conclusion

I’d like to thank all the readers of this series: “Leica on a Budget”. I’ve received a lot of feedback, and it seems, many of you out there are interested in a camera that will allow you to use Legacy M mount lenses, as well as a camera with a portable form factor, with the Image Quality that will be comparable with the  Leica M8, M9, or full frame DSLR. But cost a whole lot less! With the economy the way it is, and photography being such an equipment centric hobby/profession, you may find it challenging to stretch your funds […]

Frame Lines in the Optical View Finder: Fuji X-Pro1

If you read my review of a Third Party M lens mount to Fuji X Pro mount you’ll know that one of the issues that I had with the overall usage of the lens adapter on the body, was that you didn’t get any frame lines for custom lenses in the optical view finder. With the release of the body firmware 1.10, Fujifilm has added custom frame lines to the optical viewfinder. Yea!!! With the firmware upgrade, if you set the camera to 50mm or 18mm or 75mm you will get an approximate frame line, that is fairly accurate. With lenses that are 15mm and […]

Leica on a Budget: Part 1

I had a reader ask me what camera would be the best camera for his older M mount lenses that didn’t cost over $5000.00 USD. He had an assortment of Leica M mount lenses as well as a few Voigtlanders. So basically he wants a Leica M9 on a budget. I’ve been wondering what the answer to this question is for a long time also, so I decided to do some tests. This will be a multi part review that will test the two latest contenders the Sony NEX-7 and the Fuji X-Pro1 with various M mount lenses and compare […]

Fuji X-Pro1 w/ Voigtlander 15mm F4.5 Aspherical: Samples

For the past week, I’ve been testing many M Mount lenses on the Fuji X-Pro1. I will have these tests in the up coming days, but for the time being, I wanted to give you a sneak peek of some “real world” shots. These images were made with the Fuji X-Pro1 with the Voigtlander 15mm F4.5 Aspherical Lens. The Fuji X-Pro1 has a APS-C sized sensor with a 1.5x Crop Factor. So the Voigtlander 15mm F4.5 lens would have the 35mm film equivalent of a 22.5mm lens. This is the closest you can get to the very popular 21mm focal […]

Finally! Leica Lenses for the Fuji X-Pro1

Man! A day after I review the Kipon adapter, that I just got, for my Fuji X-Pro1 to accept Leica M Mount lenses, and Fuji announces that they have finally released their version of the adapter. That will teach me to be overly excited and impatient. The difference Fuji’s adapter has over the Kipon or Rainbow Imaging, and other third-party adapters is that is will have electronic signal contacts on the adapter along with a function button on the adapter that will tell the camera to automatically set the Menu option of “shoot without lens” to on and bring up […]
