Firmware for X-Pro1 | Fujifilm Global

The new firmware version 2.0 for the Fuji X-Pro1 is released. It makes the auto focus and the manual focus of the Fuji X-Pro1 faster and more reliable. In my reviews of the manual focus for the X-Pro1, I stated that the manual focus lag with the focus by wire focusing ring was unusable. After updating the firmware I’ve got to say that is is much improved and has gone leaps and bounds toward true geared manual focus but still falls short. There is a different feeling when using a manual geared focusing mechanism. Maybe its the feel of the […]

FIRMWARE UPDATE VERSION 2.00 IMPROVING THE PERFORMANCE OF THE FUJIFILM X-PRO1 | Press Center | Fujifilm USA. I’m so happy with the commitment that Fuji has with it’s X line of cameras. I think they realize what a following that they have with these new mirrorless cameras and how doing the right thing for the sake of the customer will win them more loyalty in the long run. With the recent announcement of the New Fuji X-E1 and the supposed increase in speed of the autofocus, as a X-Pro1 owner, would have felt very slighted if they didn’t provide a […]

FUJIFILM INTRODUCES THE ALL NEW X-E1 INTERCHANGEABLE LENS DIGITAL CAMERA AND TWO XF LENSES TO THE X-SERIES SYSTEM | Press Center | Fujifilm USA. The new Fuji X-E1 is basically the Fuji X-Pro1 without the optical viewfinder. The Fuji X-E1 has a lower rear screen resolution than the Fuji X-Pro1 but has a very good electronic viewfinder so it really doesn’t matter. Control layout is virtually identical except for the review button which has moved to the upper left hand side of the rear LCD. This is very exciting because the Fuji X-E1 has a lower price point than the […]

New Fujinon XF Lenses this fall!

June 26, 2012, Fuji Film announces 2 new lenses coming this fall of 2012. A 14mm F2.8 (21mm equivalent) and a 18-55mm F2.8-4.0 OIS (27mm-84mm equivalent) standard zoom. I’m so happy to see that Fuji Film is investing in the future of the X Pro system and expanding the lens line up to 10 lenses by the end of 2013. This system is an amazing performer and having options of the type of modern lenses as well as the ability to use Legacy lenses or Lenses with different mounts via adapters solidifies this systems mark on the photo industry. With […]

New MacBook Pros with Retina Display

Apple recently release the New MacBook Pro with Retina Display! It has a resolution of 2880×1800 so this should be great for photographers because you will be able to see more pixels per square inch, making editing, color corrections and retouching, all much much easier! Can’t wait to see it in action! When you pack over 5 million pixels into a 15.4-inch display, the results are positively stunning. The pixel density is so high, your eyes can’t discern individual pixels. Images take on a new level of realism and text is pin sharp. And with a 2880-by-1800 resolution, you can […]

Nikon's Longest Zoom

If the performance of this lens is good you may not need to carry around another lens at all. Good for stills and video, and made for a DX sensor. Man this seems like a dream. There must be a catch right?? Under 1k? Seems pretty reasonable. I will be investigating this much further. This would be great as a wedding setup. You’d never have to change a lens and you’d be ready for anything. Building on the popularity and versatility of Nikon’s telephoto zoom lens lineup which includes both the NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 and 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 VR lenses, the […]

Frame Lines in the Optical View Finder: Fuji X-Pro1

If you read my review of a Third Party M lens mount to Fuji X Pro mount you’ll know that one of the issues that I had with the overall usage of the lens adapter on the body, was that you didn’t get any frame lines for custom lenses in the optical view finder. With the release of the body firmware 1.10, Fujifilm has added custom frame lines to the optical viewfinder. Yea!!! With the firmware upgrade, if you set the camera to 50mm or 18mm or 75mm you will get an approximate frame line, that is fairly accurate. With lenses that are 15mm and […]

What is Hyperfocal Focusing?

With my latest reviews of the Voitlander 15mm F4.5 and the Zeiss 18mm F4.0, I’ve been talking a lot about hyperfocal focusing and zone focusing, and I guess there may be some confusion about what I mean by these terms, and how to use these techniques. I will clear up the confusion and explain what I mean by these terms. For the beginners out there, or for those of you that intrinsically understand what depth of field is, but don’t really know how to explain it, Depth of Field is the area of acceptable focus in an image. As photographers […]
